Berlin, 1.11.2007. The new pdfAutoOptimizer is the main component of a special software package from callas software for automated transparency flattening using Adobe Acrobat Professional. The pdfAutoOptimizer carries out various optimizations on PDF documents automatically. So now, you can flatten PDF files containing transparencies more efficiently to rule out problems while printing. To achieve this, the pdfAutoOptimizer uses the callas software tools AutoPilot, AutoPilot Commander and pdfCorrect that run as add-on modules in Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Professional. The software bundle offers all the necessary tools for optimum transparency flattening for professional users from prepress and printing.
Besides the new transparency flattening, the new version of pdfAutoOptimizer also offers the option of making individual settings for the color space used during this process. It is known that as color correction needs to be carried out first before transparency flattening, the user is often faced with the following problem: For example, after color conversion from RGB to CMYK and eventual transparency flattening using Acrobat Professional, Acrobat automatically converted back again to RGB because the flattener color space was set to RGB. On the contrary, with pdfAutoOptimizer, the color spaces used during the transparency flattening can be defined in advance, e.g. DeviceCMYK or ISO Coated v2.
The set-up of a transparency flattening workflow for PDF files using pdfAutoOptimizer and AutoPilot is achieved in a few minutes. The Acrobat-specific PDF Optimization function (in the original PDF Optimizer) is used for this. First, a hot folder system with the In, Edited, Error and Result folders is created with the automation tool, AutoPilot. Acrobat Professional must be open to enable starting the pdfAutoOptimizer operation. The AutoPilot is called from the Plug-Ins menu item. The process – in this case transparency flattening with pdfAutoOptimizer – is selected in the AutoPilot window that opens and is launched with the Start button. Without additional settings, the user can now make use of an automatic process based on monitored folders that reliably flattens all transparencies in PDF files and thus prepares the file for printing without a problem.
The automated plug-in pdfAutoOptimizer uses the stored PDF optimization settings. With that, the user has the option to create various transparency flattener settings for different requirements, e.g. the raster-vector balance or conversion of fonts to outlines to assign these to various monitored folders. Moreover, the likewise automated pdfCorrect plug-in automatically removes the ICC profile produced during the transparency flattening by default to anticipate subsequent unwanted color conversions.
The AutoPilot bundle for pdfAutoOptimizer for Acrobat 8.1 is available exclusively as a plug-in package for the Windows operating system. The price is EUR 2499 excl. VAT. An upgrade for owners of an earlier license of pdfAutoOptimizer is available for EUR 749.
