Gradual Software releases support for callas pdfAutoOptimizer

Maintenance update introduces brand-new configurator to flatten live transparencies

Ghent (Belgium) and Berlin (Germany), 22 January 2008 — Gradual Software and callas software today released SWITCH 07 update 3 with support for callas software pdfAutoOptimizer. The maintenance update for SWITCH introduces a number of smaller features and fixes, but also for the first time makes flattening of live transparencies available through the use of callas pdfAutoOptimizer on Mac OS X and Windows. Until the end of March, callas pdfAutoOptimizer for SWITCH is available at a special introductory price.

The solution for transparency problems

Using easy drag-and-drop, users can now integrate callas pdfAutoOptimizer into their workflows to establish reliable transparency flattening of PDF files on Mac OS X and Windows. The configurator for pdfAutoOptimizer allows users to select stored PDF optimization settings in version 8.1 or higher of Adobe Acrobat Professional (Acrobat Professional must be available on the same system as SWITCH). This gives users the option of creating different transparency flattening settings for different requirements, such as pixel image vector adjustment or the conversion of fonts to outlines. Peter Kleinheider, Manager Print Publishing Technologies of callas software comments, “Until live transparencies in PDFs can be rendered correctly during output, controlled flattening of live transparency in a PDF stays an issue in many workflows. Automating Adobe Acrobats PDF optimizer functionality gives the user the right tool to centralize and perform the task of PDF transparency flattening with the known quality of Adobe’s own PDF flattening engine.”
