Berlin, March 26, 2019 - Beuth Verlag has introduced pdfaPilot and pdfToolbox solutions from callas software for the automated quality validation of PDF/A files. Both products ensure that the DIN standards published by Beuth Verlag comply with the ISO standards and are therefore suitable for long-term archiving. At the same time, a high degree of automation has significantly reduced the amount of manual work required. Beuth Verlag produces thousands of standards every year.

Beuth Verlag, based in Berlin, is a part of the DIN Group and Germany's leading provider of standards management together with technical regulations and knowledge services. "As a publisher of norms, standards and guidelines, it is essential that the material we publish maintains a high standard of quality", says Mark Reuter, Project Manager, Standards Production at Beuth Verlag. "In order to guarantee this at a reasonable cost, we looked for a solution that ensures the quality of PDF/A files."

pdfaPilot & pdfToolbox with convincing arguments

While searching for suitable solutions, Mark Reuter came across callas software, a leading provider of automated PDF quality assurance and archiving solutions. With pdfaPilot and pdfToolbox, the company offers tools that validate PDF/A files and correct them to the maximum extent. These tools use the same verification technology that Adobe has licensed from callas software for the preflight plug-in.

Further arguments for Beuth Verlag were that both pdfaPilot and pdfToolbox are available for Linux, offer a good price/performance ratio and a high degree of user-friendliness – even in a distributed client/server environment. "For security reasons, we have outsourced our document server to a specialist. We can conveniently access the documents stored there via the clients of callas products", explains Mark Reuter.

Automated troubleshooting to the maximum extent

For Beuth Verlag, pdfaPilot validates whether the files comply with the PDF/A-1b conformity level, which prescribes clear visual reproducibility. This enables Beuth Verlag to ensure that all characters, formulas or glyphs used in standards from all over the world are reliably represented. pdfaPilot principally corrects existing errors, such as undefined glyphs followed by corrections that are taken over by pdfToolbox, such as simplifying complex path structures or creating a searchable, invisible text copy. If callas products are not able to independently correct existing errors, for example if fonts are completely missing, they issue a notification so that the team can react.

"With automated quality validation, we ensure that only PDF/A-compliant files reach our archive", summarizes Mark Reuter, adding: "callas software provides valuable support with its products."
